A Dog's Honest Review of Appellation Healdsburg
A Conversation with Penne, Our Furry Friend Named After the Pasta
At Appellation Healdsburg, we believe that pets aren't just welcome—they're part of the family. Our 8.5-acre property was designed with everyone in mind, including four-legged guests. From expansive grounds to chef-crafted treats, we've reimagined what it means to be a dog-friendly hotel in Wine Country.
But don't take our word for it. We asked Penne, a recent guest with exacting standards and a nose for authenticity, to share his unfiltered perspective on what makes Appellation Healdsburg stand out. His answers might just convince you to bring your pup along on your next Wine Country escape.

What was the vibe when you walked through the door? How were you greeted?
"The lobby was lively, lots of humans pretending they weren't already tired from traveling. One family even brought another dog, which immediately made checking in far more interesting. Shoved my face in someone else's bag, the usual. Then, when it was our turn I made a beeline for the host, obviously. They crouched down and greeted me first… the way it should be."
What was the most exciting part about having house-made treats waiting for you? Still thinking about them?
"Well, eating them. That's the whole thrill, isn't it? I did help myself to an extra one when my parents got distracted. If they didn't want me to eat it, they should have remembered to close the cookie jar."
Did you claim a favorite spot in the room right away, or did it take a few sniffs to find your perfect spot? Did the room feel spacious enough for you to sprawl out?
"The room was huge, so I performed my standard reconnaissance laps, three full circuits and a sofa perimeter check, before choosing my place. The floor-to-ceiling windows were elite. I left an impressive collection of nose smudges on them because someone had to keep an eye on the pool activity."

What was your favorite spot to explore? Did you discover all the hidden paths through the culinary gardens, or do you have a preferred sunbathing terrace?
"The culinary garden was basically a personal scent amusement park. I may have launched myself into a raised bed because something smelled too good to ignore — but who's keeping track? My favorite spot though, was the walking trail. Vineyards, open views, long stretches to strut."
Were the al fresco patios the perfect spot for you to dine alongside your humans?
"Yes. Beeline's patio was ideal, my humans had cocktails and mocktails, I had water service, which I appreciated. I also sampled a chip from the salmon tartare. Let's call it 'quality control.'"

Did you make any new four-legged friends during your time at Appellation Healdsburg?
"I met a poodle and two beagles. We exchanged a respectful sniff and kept it moving. I'm not here for small talk, I'm on vacation."
Did the Appellation team make you feel welcomed and included? Anyone give you special attention, a tasty treat or good scratch?
"Oh, they adored me. Back scratches, butt scratches, compliments… the works. I usually get attention everywhere I go, but this place really leaned in. They understood the assignment."

What would you tell other dogs considering a stay at Appellation Healdsburg?
"Pack your favorite toy and get your humans here immediately. You deserve this level of service. And they do too I guess."
Rate the resort on a scale of tail-wags—did it earn your enthusiastic endorsement?
