Seeing in Shapes

Collage lets you paint without fear. The color arrives already mixed, on paper you can cut, move and cut again, so a composition becomes a game of trying things rather than a test of getting them right. That is the spirit of Linda Pouliot’s November workshop.

Working from painted papers, you will learn to capture a scene quickly, reducing what you see to its essential shapes and noticing where color, shape and form meet in unexpected ways. Linda walks through the methods behind her own interiors and landscapes, along with practical ways to compose a picture that carry over to any medium.

It is a fresh way of looking at the everyday. No experience needed, only a willingness to cut first and decide later.

Linda Pouliot
Painter

Linda Pouliot paints quiet mornings, long afternoons and the intimacy of a private moment. Bright, saturated color carries an easy optimism through her interiors and landscapes, bathed in the clear light California is known for.

She paints her papers first, then cuts and arranges them into simplified forms that find the small geometries of lived spaces. Pouliot received her BFA cum laude in fine art from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and lives and works in Portola Valley. Her residency is presented with Rena Charles Gallery in Healdsburg.
