Artist-in-Residence

Linda Pouliot

November 1 - 30, 2026

A kettle, a stool, a vase of roses. In Linda Pouliot’s hands, the ordinary objects of a room become characters, cut down to their essential shapes and set in color that holds the late light of a California afternoon.

She paints her papers first, then cuts and arranges them into interiors, docks and poolside scenes that feel both calm and quietly joyful. Her work hangs at Appellation all month, and she is here in person for an evening reception, a collage workshop in the Maker and an afternoon of quick portrait sketches.

Linda Pouliot paints quiet mornings, long afternoons and the intimacy of a private moment. Color is central to her language. Bright, saturated hues carry an easy optimism, bathing interiors and landscapes in the warm, clear light California is known for, and her affection for the small geometries of lived spaces shows in every simplified form.

Pouliot received her BFA cum laude in fine art from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and lives and works in Portola Valley. Her residency is presented with Rena Charles Gallery in Healdsburg. On Friday, November 13, she leads “Seeing in Shapes,” a hands-on collage workshop in the Maker. On Saturday, November 14, she sketches guests during Office Hours, each portrait a 4 x 6 inch keepsake drawn in about the length of a song.

Painter Linda Pouliot builds her scenes from painted paper, cut and rearranged until a whole room becomes a handful of shapes. On a Friday afternoon in the Maker Room, she shows you how.
