Office Hours with Meagen Svendsen

Wednesday, September 23, 2026
2:30–4:30 pm

Most of what a maker does happens long before the finished piece appears on a wall. This is a chance to see the middle of it. Meagen Svendsen will be at the bench through the afternoon, working the way she works on any ordinary day — pressing porcelain, trimming an edge, setting a form against walnut burl to see whether the two belong together. Nothing is staged and nothing is on a schedule. Wander in between other things, watch for five minutes or an hour, ask why she chose that leaf or that piece of wood, and wander out again. It is the least formal thing on the September calendar and, for a lot of guests, the one they end up talking about.

Meagen Svendsen
Ceramic Artist

Meagen Svendsen’s vernacular of ceramic works references the shared impact and cross-pollination of the human-made and natural world.

Informed by her years living in France, Japan, Mexico and Russia, and inspired by an inquiry into current discoveries in biology, ecology and neuroscience, she explores tensions between the perception of nature as exotic other and the practical implications of scientific findings on the interconnection between wildlife and humanity.
